Striped Bass Fishing

Striped Bass Fishing on the North River, Minot, Plymouth jetty by center of town, and Cape Cod Massachusetts or any place along the northern coast. Up past the bridge on 3A beyond the first big bend near an aluminum boathouse is where you will find striped bass fishing as the sun starts to set on the North River.  The tide does not matter unless you are fishing from a boat then you need a good half to full tide preferably an incoming tide.

Most big striped bass fishing is done at night between the hours of 6pm and 7am. There were several lures that were that are the best these were Cotton Cordell’s Red Fin – red head white body 5/8ths ounce, Bomber Long A fire minnow and Rebels Pop R silver body red head it cast like a bullet and was easily the best popper.  These three lures worked only at night but it did not matter what the weather was like, they would catch striped bass almost every night.

Striped bass fishing in Minot was nearly as good but is best at night with the same three lures plus some rigged eels with a small bobber or a cork float. The Jetty in Scituate at night was another good place, although you are as likely to catch a few other types of fish there as well.  Another way of getting stripers was with chunks of mackerel and a 4 to 5 aught stainless steel hook. Another good hot spot was Blueberry Island on the north river that is only accessible by boat when its half to full tide.

Third and fourth cliffs are great places to fish from the shore for stripers or blues with live bait, lures and hunks of mackerel. You could easily latch into a 40 to 70 inch fish at any given night so be well prepared with a reel that holds at least 200 yards. Check your line often for nicks if you feel one cut it off immediately and retie.

There are many other good places to go striped bass fishing almost any place along the eastern seaboard but remember nighttime is the right time for striper fishing.
